Blogger turned entrepreneur and business strategist Michelle Hon knows the importance of a well-designed home office. She has built her businesses while working from home around her children.
Her home office is more than just an office. It’s her sanctuary. Her own space away from the kids. It’s the place she goes when she needs to get things done. The styling in her space needs to reflect that.
Built around pieces from the KING Collection, Michelle has created a home office space that has the functionality she requires within a relaxed atmosphere.
As a mom of three young children, home for Michelle is “the safe place where my family is.” But Michelle is also busy at work chasing her dreams, and helping other moms achieve the same.
Her days usually involve working from her home office while the kids are at school in the morning.
Michelle works comfortably in her home office with the Eto Desk in Onyx, lit by the Lume Smart Light, and Quay Dining Chair.
“The kids come home from school around noon and I spend the rest of the afternoon with them,” she explains. “I sometimes sneak back into the office here and there if I need to get things done.”
Then it’s family dinner and bedtime for the kids by about 8:30pm before she and her husband join each other on the couch for a bit of TV or work on their laptops.
On how she manages her busy schedule around her family life, Michelle says she batches her days to be more efficient.
“Monday is for internal company meetings and admin,” she says. “On Tuesday I create content and training materials, Wednesday is for coaching calls and Zoom meetings. I dedicate Thursdays to 1:1 coaching or sheets and end the week on Friday with in-person meetings.”
Michelle credits the style of her home to her husband. She describes him as “the designer between us” and the one who made most of the decisions when it came to choosing the furniture to style their home.
Michelle credits her husband when it came to choosing stylish home furniture, such as the Seymour High Back Chair and Bongo Ottoman with Tray Table.
As parents they had to consider the functionality and durability of their furniture, while still ensuring it fit with the personal style ethos. The Seymour High Back Chair is one such piece, with its gentle angles and flared back offering the perfect spot to unwind after a busy day.
Michelle admits that her style is quite practical. But it’s not just practical things that she’s drawn to.
“I’m practical but I like little quirky details on things that make them unique,” she explains. “If you leave it up to me, I probably won’t get many things for my home.”
While Michelle leans on her husband as the “designer” for their home style, she was heavily involved in selecting the pieces for her home office. She conducts a lot of training, coaching and presenting from her home office where her space is on full view to the participants tuning in.
“It’s so important that my space is functional,” she says. “But it also needs to look good because of how many people see it.”
The Eto Desk and Quay Dining Chair strike a balance between elegance and practicality.
For this reason, Michelle chose the stylish combination of the Eto Desk and Quay Dining Chair.
"The Eto Desk is minimalistic yet has all the essentials I need in a good desk,” she explains. “It’s certainly not another boring office desk! It absolutely fills my requirement of being practical and unique at the same time.”
The Quay Dining Chair is one of those versatile pieces that can work in any room. Against the clean lines of the Eto Desk, it’s a practical and aesthetic pairing. Initially drawn to the look and design of the Eto Desk and Quay Dining Chair, it wasn’t until Michelle sat in the chair at the desk that she realised just how perfect these pieces would be.
“When I pulled the Quay Dining Chair up to the Eto Desk and sat down, it felt just right,” she recalls. “I knew I had found the right desk and chair for what I needed.”
